About
BC3: A Bitcoin relaunch with a novel PoW algorithm.BitcoinIII (BC3) is a relaunch of the Bitcoin protocol. It provides a "second chance" for those who missed out on Bitcoin in the early days, and a clean slate. BC3 draws its inspiration from BC2, but makes one crucial change, explained below.
In order to provide the closest experience to what Bitcoin was like in the early days, BC3 changes the only aspect of consensus required to achieve this: the block hash/PoW algorithm. By moving away from SHA-256d, BC3 does not attempt to compete with Bitcoin for the same hardware. Instead, BC3 uses little-endian SHA3-256t as its block hash algorithm - the first coin to ever implement it.
By using a novel PoW algorithm, BC3 removes the barrier to achieving a high level of network security, as it will never have to out-compete Bitcoin, or any other coin, for that matter. As BC3 grows, ASICs will eventually be developed for it, and it will sit inside its own hardware class, rather than sharing it with another network, thus significantly raising the bar to attacking the network.
As mentioned, BC3 is identical to Bitcoin in every way, except for the block hash algorithm. The emissions schedule, difficulty adjustment algorithm, script parsing, address formats, etc. are all unchanged, which provides interoperability with existing Bitcoin software after minimal modification, or none at all, in some cases (e.g. BlueWallet).
BC3 is currently GPU-mineable. It can be mined with an NVIDIA or AMD graphics card. There are many pools to choose from, as well as solo-mining software.
